I love Capturing the Friedman's for various reasons, but I thought the soundtrack was just so effective. However, it's one of those that does well even apart from the film, which I find is rare with purely orchestrated works.
Also, for reference, not that this matters for the core film itself... but I believe that the DVD release improves the overall picture and story by including a second disc with endless information about the case. It really opened my eyes to a lot of the aspects that were missing from the film, and gave me new respect for the director.
It's interesting to note, for instance, that there was more defendants than just Jesse Friedman and his father, Arnold. Two more, in fact. _________________

You have GOT to see Heir to an Execution. I think you'll love it. |

That's how I saw the film. I snagged a copy to rent from work. But after going to the Full Frame Festival... it just wasn't that impressive of a film, looking back and all. But yeah, soundtracks are an interesting part of filmmaking and I try to be on top of different soundtracks. It'd be even easier if I had sound on my computer! _________________ Playing the world's smallest violin while nothing burns. |

I'm frightfully behind in my "download movie soundtracks" list.
I only just recently added RotK, Kill Bill 2 (both parts of that soundtrack were superb), and Pirates of Caribbean (I can't believe how fun that one is outside of the context of the movie).
I've got a crapload of other movies to get the soundtracks to... |

I heard about this film in passing once, and I just went to check it out in Amazon...
...definitely looks like something I'd love. Gonna put it down on my wish list so I remember to buy/rent it when it comes out in September.
Also, now I'll reccomend to you Paradise Lost: The Child Murders at Robin Hood Hills. Came out a bunch of years ago, but it's incredible imho. It's a documentary about how a town sort of unravels at even the hint from the police department that the case has to do with Satanic rituals. But the most amazing thing is that the people who were eventually convicted were so obviously wrongly accused, and the person who ACTUALLY did it is essentially jumping up and down in front of the camera to give himself away. It's fascinating stuff. _________________

Wait for the EXTENDED Lord of the Rings Soundtrack to come out. Yes, I'm not kidding you... it's a super extended edition, that's coming out in a limited fashion. Going to be good. _________________

I've got a review to Heir. You should check it out.
Also, Sarah and I met Joel Beringer at the Full Frame Documentary festival. The guy who made Paradise Lost 1 and 2. He was there for Metallica: Some Kind of Monster (which was awesome). We had a really great chat with him, mostly about SKOM, but he touched on Paradise Lost as well.
I have a lot of respect for him after meeting him, even if he did make Blair Witch 2 and even if he didn't quite understand the audience's reaction to SKOM.
Also, he's considering doing a part 3 to Paradise Lost. |

I wrote this in my Full Frame Docs Fest Article:
9:30PM-11:30PM Carolina Theatre Cinema 1
Heir to an Execution
(2004. USA. 99mins. Directed by Ivy Meeropol. Produced by Marc Levin, Daphne Pinkerson and Ivy Meeropol. An HBO Documentary Film.)
On June 19th, 1953, the U.S. government executed Julius and Ethel Rosenberg for "conspiracy to commit espionage." The world looked on that day as their names were smeared into history as both martyrs and spies. When the Rosenbergs died, they left two sons and an extended family of siblings, one of whom, David Greenglass, testified against his sister and brother-in-law. His testimony was the evidence the government had to convict them. Now, fifty years later, the Rosenbergs’ granddaughter, Ivy Meeropol, embarks on a quest to understand who her grandparents were and the choices they made. Along the way, she discovers startling new information about the case and what happened to her family.
Southeast Premiere
Q&A with filmmaker following screening
The final film of the evening. I was excited to learn that two of my other professors were going to be at this screening. One of them even talked to Mac and myself before the screening. It was wonderful.
Mac has written a review on the film and we share much of the same opinion on it. I personally thought it was great to learn so much about these two figures in American history. What was even greater was the fact that I met her and even talked with her a bit. I can now say that I talked with the granddaughter of the Rosenbergs.
The hunt for the secrets in her families' past was amazing. There was so much to share and it was shocking as to how emotional the film got, without being overtly sappy. This film will apparently be showing on HBO and I highly recommend trying to catch it. Wonderful.
If you're interested in docs, I definately say check out that two part entry... its pretty sweet. (its on the front page... the link) _________________ Playing the world's smallest violin while nothing burns. |

Reading the review, it really sounds fantastic. Gonna make it a extreme note to buy it.
Also, did you see Bus 174? Another documentary I cannot get enough of.
And, yeah, as you can tell... I love documentaries. _________________

No. I haven't seen that. At first I thought it was Haharug 17 (or Victim #17)...which wasn't that good.
But no, I haven't seen that one. |

Now you're just being bitter. It wasn't THAT bad of a film. Maybe you were just tired. _________________ Playing the world's smallest violin while nothing burns. |
