Thanks for the plug.

Also:
"I'm a little bit country, and you're a little bit rock & roll... and Phil wears his sunglasses at night." (He does, it's true.)
Mitch is still hee-hawing about about the closing lines. We had a lot of fun with this podcast, though we ran way long and editing was a real bitch. (I cut out a lot of digressions and one or two news stories.) |

Wasn't there supposed to be festival coverage? Monkey said something last weekend about it. _________________ "Trying is the first step toward failure." -Homer Simpson |

Festival coverage is part of what got cut, as is my News in Briefs section. It's unfortunate but there's gotta be a balance between punctuality, duration, and completeness... Putting out a Sunday cast on Wednesday was bad enough; there just wasn't time to put in those parts. |

Maybe a way around making sure things don't get cut is to have multiple podcasts. Not to rock any kind of established boat, but if other staffers could organize a group on their own time and could record and edit a show, I think that would be great too. It'd be another outlet for the voice of the site and another opportunity to snag new listeners and members. _________________ "Trying is the first step toward failure." -Homer Simpson |

Yeah, I've already brought up the idea of multiple casts. In fact I brought up something like "Mac & Monkey Mondays" back when we'd only recorded the pilot. But I think it's a bit early yet... Can't jump into a second podcast until we know what works & doesn't work with the first. |

Also... Regarding stuff getting cut... to some degree that's bound to happen with any publication that (a) is regularly and frequently updated, and (b) must fit within a relatively finite amount of time/space. This isn't a problem so much on a website where we've got plenty of space for articles and set our own deadlines, but it's quite common in TV, radio, newspapers, magazines, etc. |

Correction. I think now may be the time to try a second cast. Not regarding the cutting room... But there seem to be two camps of opinion forming about what to do with the podcast, and I don't think either camp is necessarily right or wrong, but probably counterproductive to working "together" on a single cast.
So let's do a second cast, one to take the more formally organized approach. (Or manage it however they see fit.) I'd presume Sarah would want charge of that cast, but whoever. And I'll keep going with the first POPcast. Staffers and guests would be free to contribute to either or both, of course.
It could make for a neat competition... Both crews can learn from their own and each other's mistakes and achievements, we can have more freedom to attract different, varying audiences (making for a collectively wider audience), and by having each other to set the high watermark, perhaps we can improve production values with both.
What say?
(Just two for now, no more. I still think two is good.) |

so you're saying like (just as an example) a sort of Smart/Popcorn dichotomy? Not saying anyone should ever stick to certain types of films or certain types of opinions, but I just thought it was funny to bring it up. _________________ Playing the world's smallest violin while nothing burns. |

Yeah... Actually that's exactly why it clicked in my head, two podcasts. We're all about flirting with the dual nature of things, so it could be interesting to branch in two directions with the cast, and see if we end up finding radically different directions, or converge upon the same path. It's all experimental & all, and that gets the science geek in me excited. |

that word experimental is a bit scary... I had to watch "experimental" film in Subersive Film Class and I am tramatized for life. _________________ Playing the world's smallest violin while nothing burns. |
