The debate here is really fun because you guys are passionate and always ragging on each other frequently. It makes for a fun listen. _________________ "Trying is the first step toward failure." -Homer Simpson |

Thx, Nate. I gotta say this episode is the first to really hit that mark I've been shooting for all along. It's long--it was over 90 minutes before the edit--but it remains funny, empassioned, or both throughout. Not that I mean to toot my own horn... But yeah, this episode was very satisfying. Glad you can see it (hear it?) too. |

I'm going to try and be as constructive as possible here.
Thoughts: Thom and Mitch do a good job articulating their thoughts, Phil is monotone and interuptive.. It makes the podcast seem much more amateur.
Boondock Saints: "Any movie that doesn't get a wide release is worth watching, there will always be something unique there", first of all, I completely disagree with this statement, as many films inside the studio system can offer just as much as those outside it. Plus, Boondock Saints didn't even get a release, it was direct to video.
Overall, it's okay, but I think Phil's presentation brings it down a few notches. _________________ krazed from RT. |

Mitch doesn't have much faith in the "Hollywood" system... I believe he goes into that in greater detail in our UNESCO story in Episode 6. Anyhow, I don't think he means to say that there aren't ANY unique or interesting films within the studio system... After all, Serenity was a Universal film.

Then it certainly didn't get a wide release, right? Seriously, though, thanks for the input. |

Overnight is an incredible documentary too about Troy Duffy, the man whose collosal ego burned down every bridge he ever had. It has got to be some of the most insanely egomanical paranoia I've ever seen on film. Truly one of the cinema's biggest assholes.
I've also never seen Boondock Saints yet all my friends have. _________________ "Trying is the first step toward failure." -Homer Simpson |

How the HELL does a monotone voice make something amatuer?
I don't really ... care about what I said. But the way I see it, every film offers something interesting; some films give me 90 minutes of goodies, and sometimes only a few seconds. There are hundreds of movies I consider "bad" that have a scene or scenes or sequence that I find ... cool, for whatever reason.
Looking at what Hollywood's been handing me ... until I joined up with the Smart Popcorn experience I hadn't seen a movie in theaters for almost two years. Most of it's swill, from your Uwe Bolls (I don't care if I spell that right) to your Michael Bays. Then when I see movies like "Lost in Translation" and "Sideways" (amongst others, I chose those two because of the hype on late night shows) calling them unique and indie because there's dialog(?!) ... well, I damn near quit.
And the movies I have seen for Smart Popcorn haven't been so great. It's more or less known now that, unless a movie really interests me, I'm not throwing my bucks at it. I've got two toliets at home that I'll flush my 7 bucks down, thank you.
Any way, thanks for calling me out. I appreciate criticism, but I appreciate it more when you're not shying away from your point(s). |

and there wasn't really that much dialogue in Lost in Translation either. As far as monotone = amatuer, I can only speculate that maybe the idea was that a monotone voice lacks passion or interest and seems boring, or personality free. I don't know. _________________ "Trying is the first step toward failure." -Homer Simpson |

I didn't call you out, Mitch, I called out Phil. You had your stuff together, in my mind. My criticisim with the monotone voice stems from how excited you and Thom seem, and then Phil interupts and just seems downright bored and way too forceful. It brings down the tone of your show. _________________ krazed from RT. |

RE: Phil's voice, he was featured more prominently this week as a bit of a birthday present. I personally think he's got a good voice, but he's probably not best used as a "primary host" for the show. No worries about that, as I expect to resume hosting duties for the forseeable future. (Especially since I get everything in one take, guys... sheesh. ) |
