10 Dec 2003 03:53 pm Post subject: A New Addition to the Team... |

Hey all,
I'm a new addition to the staff, and I'm looking forward to contributing to what looks like a great online community.
That being said, a few words of introduction are in order. I'm 18 years old, living in Canada, and working my way through college towards a degree in the sciences. As far as cinema goes, I've been a fan of film all my life; some of my earliest memories are of watching great children's movies on TV.
However, my interest in filmmaking only became serious a few years ago, and since then, I've been exploring all the sides of this great art. My tastes are as ecclectic as any - I'll watch anything once, and I've liked everything from epics to chamber pieces to musicals to the more esoteric genres of Japanese cinema.
As a barometer for my tastes, here are three lists. One is a compilation of some of my favorite movies; the two others are my ten favorite films from 2003 and 2002, respectively.
SOME OF MY FAVORITE MOVIES
2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY (Kubrick)
8½ (Fellini)
APOCALYPSE NOW (Coppola)
CITIZEN KANE (Welles)
CRIES AND WHISPERS (Bergman)
DR. STRANGELOVE... (Kubrick)
THE GODFATHER TRILOGY (Coppola)
THE INDIANA JONES TRILOGY (Spielberg)
JFK (Stone)
LA DOLCE VITA (Fellini)
LAWRENCE OF ARABIA (Lean)
ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA (Leone)
PULP FICTION (Tarantino)
RAGING BULL (Scorsese)
SCHINDLER'S LIST (S. Spielberg)
STALKER (Tarkovsky)
THE THIRD MAN (Reed)
REAR WINDOW (Hitchcock)
2003 TOP TEN LIST
10. Lilya 4-Ever
9. All The Real Girls
8. Raising Victor Vargas
7. A Hauteur d'Homme
6. 21 Grams
5. Whale Rider
4. Bubba Ho-Tep
3. Hero
2. Gerry
1. Dogville
2002 TOP TEN LIST
10. Road to Perdition
9. Adaptation

Welcome aboard, Timotei. You mention interest in "filmmaking"... Do you mean just an interest in observing the filmmaking process, or do you have aspirations behind the camera yourself? |

The process, mostly, although I have been involved in some (unfortunately rather fruitless, though not for lack of trying) amateur film ventures.

Hey, did you get your RevSys info yet? You should add your reviews and we'll put 'em up by tomorrow at the latest. |

And after glancing at your website, you should expand a few of the reviews and hook us up with some content.
have you checked out my site? It's still very much in the works, but it has a lot of my gradings and stuff.

I'll definetly try and do that.
On a related note, do you still have the Kill Bill, Vol. 1 review I sent by e-mail? I forgot to save a copy for myself.

Yes I do. It's in my mailbox. I'm waiting for Thom to get back online and we're going to put it up. Hopefully tonight. I leave for work in 2 hours. Cause Thom has your RevSys info, and I can't put up the review. So yeah... THOM WHERE ARE YOU!!! |

Ok, that wasn't cool. Anyways... I was going to say something... OH!! If you have AIM or Yahoo Messenger... list it, just in case we need to get a hold of you. Plus I can also unblock you on my AOL list. That way we can have immediate contact. So yeah... Anyways. |

I posted my Hero review 2 days ago, but it isn't up yet. Did I do something wrong, or is there a normal delay between the submission and the time it goes up?

Hmm... You know what, I think your first try may've suffured from the infamous "lost cookie" glitch (one that will be fixed in the next month) that sorta... leaves the submission out in limbo, before trashing it. To save you the hassle, I'll go ahead and paste your review in, just wanted you to get familiar with the system. In the future if you're writing a new review, I recommend doing so in Word or Notepad first (but beware of special characters--Word is pushy with those) and paste it in, being mindful that there is a login timeout to deal with.
As I said, this problem will be fixed by New Year's. Sorry about that. |
