He was very thin in his early film work. I think Resevoir Dogs will be the film that defines his legacy though.

Think you are correct re: his legacy. So sad to get this news and he will be missed. Rest in peace, Chris. Sad to see also some less than respectful posts around the 'net about him. Metafilter comes to mind...

Reservoir Dogs may be what Chris Penn is remembered for, but I fell in love with 'Willard' from Foot Loose long before I was old enough to see an 'R' rated movie.

As sad as this may sound, I think I liked Chris Penn just as much in 'Corky Romano' as I did him in 'Resevoir Dogs'. I don't know what it was, but I thought 'Corky' was just a silly, funny movie.

But it is sad. I was shocked to hear of his passing. Rest in Peace Nice Guy Eddie

Like many others here, I will always remember him for great roles like the 'Nice Guy Eddie'. Yet I had forgotten about his earlier works such as 'Footloose' which my wife had reminded me of. It was the first movie she had thought of when she heard the news of his death. He was a good character actor that always had a great presence, much like his brother. He will be missed...
