The story is on everybody's lips, impossible to ignore. What is your opinion of Mel Gibson's DUI arrest and drunken anti-semitic rant. I am not surprised really. After Passion of the Christ and Gibson's dismissive attitude toward Jewish organizations and individuals who voiced concerns about the picture, combined with his father's on the record comments questioning the reality of the holocaust, I am just not suprised.
Here is a recap of the story from ABC News

Gibson happens to be working on a TV movie based on the life of a holocaust survivor at the moment. Here is the reaction from Flory Van Beek the subject of the book and movie "Flory: Survival in the Valley of Death," linked from ABC News

Then there is Gibson's new movie what fate will befall Apocolypto. Our poll question will Gibson's comments effect your decision to see Apocolypto?

I only heard about this today, and things like this make me laugh, especially when I hear people that weren't the target of the offense throwing their arms up in anger over a drunken celebrity's idiotic outburst. The guy isn't the Pope or the President. He's a face on the TV. He's a face on the big screen. He's not any kind of figure head, he's just another Joe Schmo like the rest of us; he just happens to be rich and famous.

If you're Jewish, I can understand being upset. However, does Mel Gibson saying something other morons have been saying for centuries really make anything worse? He's only hurting himself.

If you're not one of the offended parties, then shut up and go about your day. The man is a nobody in your life. You don't know him, he doesn't know you. He doesn't care what you think of him, and you shouldn't think of him at all.

And this wasn't directed at you Kernan, just being thrown out there in general.

What people seem to forget is, for a long time, since Lethal Weapon if not earlier, one of Mel's bigger draws was that he was always somewhat manic/crazy/kooky. Now they seem surprised by the same fact.
