Post subject: Awards Season Has Begun
|It's not even November but already some of the years biggest awards contenders are already out there and the staff of Smart-popcorn.com has you covered with reviews of many of this years top contenders.
Forrest Whitaker is a much buzzed about candidate for Best Actor with his role as dictator Idi Amin in the movie The Last King of Scotland. Marcus has a review....
The buzz has been weakening for Marie Antoinette and Black Sheep tells you why in his review...
Helen Mirren is a virtual lock for a Best Actress nomination for The Queen and if things break right for the film, Best Picture is not out of the question. Black Sheep's review tells you why this is such a strong candidate.....
Clint Eastwood's Flags of Our Fathers has been getting beat up by the buzz. Was the film released to early. Is the story lacking mainstream appeal? Wherever the bad buzz is coming from, the film is far too good not to remain a contender as I point out in my review....
Todd Field's follow-up to his Best Picture nominated In The Bedroom is called Little Children and it stars Kate Winslet and Jennifer Connelly. The best picture buzz is not there but there is strong word of mouth about the performances, especially that of Ms. Winslet. Black Sheep's review tells you why this one's a contender.....
The hottest movie of the moment is Scorsese's The Departed. Making a serious killing at the box office, the film has gone from wide appeal thriller to Oscar frontrunner in just a couple weeks. Black Sheep's review places The Departed as one of the highest rated movies of 2006 on our smart/popcorn scale....
Fighting to keep it's buzz alive after a lackluster performance at the box office Hollywoodland looks like a contender only for the acting categories. As I explain in my review, Ben Affleck does indeed look like a real contender....
One of the most unlikely contenders came out earlier than most. Little Miss Sunshine has been the hottest indie feature of the year and if films like Marie Antoinette and Flags of Our Fathers falter, there may be room in the best picture category. Black Sheep is not quite that high on the film though his review is positive.....
Plenty more contenders to be added to this forum. Tell us what you think of the contenders.
