So I just put up my quickreview to Batman Begins (expect an actual review with my end of year article because it's definitely Top 10 Material), and I have to say, we at S-P have never been in so much agreement as the 9 staffers who reviewed BB. Even Sarah, who wasn't nearly as enamored with the film as I and others were graded it quite highly. The closest contender is looking to be King Kong.
It's pretty fucking cool, especially when you compare it to other comic book movies like Sin City (which is all over the fucking map) and X2 (which I still loved, but it's not nearly as solidly produced).
So did anyone NOT like Batman Begins this year? |

I like the beginning, but once Bruce dones his costume I lose all interest. |

Granted, the middle section of the film where we watch the creation of the Batman persona MAKES the movie (kind of like how Spider-Man's origin in the first Spider-Man makes that movie) but I still liked the rest of it.
Even the qualms I had with it after my first screening (didn't like Cillian Murphy at first for instance) kinda diminished upon reflection. It was just a solid effort overall. |

I've heard people say this, and the exact opposite as well. Which just goes to show after 60-ish years of history, a TV show, several cartoons, and four (five? six?) previous films, there's a broad range of expectation for Batman.
There were a few isolated scenes throughout that don't hold up on repeat viewing, but I think other, more numerous parts that get even better.
No wonder it's got the highest confidence rating of any movie in the system. |
