The question of the week is will the 'Passion' crowd turn out for the gentile Nativity. If they do then the box office will be very interesting this weekend. There is not much for new competition this weekend as a pair of R-rated flicks aim for the yong male demo that isn't going back for another look at Borat.
Van Wilder 2: Rise of Taj and Turistas are chasing the same audience and neither one looks very strong. Their weakness will likely be a boon to week 3 of James Bond and even week 6 of Borat. Both films are still strong buzzmakers.
The Nativity is the wild card. There is a relatively small mainstream audience for this film. It is the church crowd, those that don't go to the movies very often that will be key to The Nativity's opening weekend. If the films church offensive worked the film could be huge, if not the film wasn't likely to be a factor at the box office anyway.
