Review by The Gnome (Billy Dal Porto)

I was disappointed, and I was pleased. One things for sure, this is not a movie you want to watch in the middle of the night, in the dark alone. Whether you want to believe it or night, it embodies everything Resident Evil is about. It's the scariest movie to come along in a long while, based on one of the scariest games to ever exist. Blood, gore, extreme violence... this is not for the faint of heart or the easily disgusted.

The video games have always held a credibility for being notoriously intelligent, involving intricate puzzles and mazes for the player to navigate. While this movie doesn't provide much brain teasing, it certainly doesn't become a clueless blood fest. To be honest, I've always been a Resident Evil fan, so I will be harsh on this film. They made a huge mistake by trying to create an entirely different story and totally new characters. They could have at LEAST changed the city name if they were going to change everything else. But instead, we end up with a storyline borderling a lame mimic of the games, and character development that is subpar. I was waiting to see Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine... so I was disappointed.

This is one of the scariest movies I have ever seen. Things jumped out from every angle, the suspense kept me on the edge of my seat, and the movie didn't deliver embarassing action flick dialogue. Milla Jovovich is on her way to becoming a damn good action star after Fifth Element, and now Resident Evil, and Michelle Rodriguez is following closely behind. The story, while it was a disappointment as a game-fan, was easily accessible as a non-fan. And for those of you who like to see a good blood and guts gory slasher flick, this one is for you. The zombies and other creatures were right on target... so I was pleased.

If you're a fan of the video game, see this movie. If you're a fan of horror films, see this movie. If you like good action flicks, see this movie. Otherwise, I would not suggest this film. It's meant to satisfy the previously mentioned movie-goers. Anyone else will be disgusted or mortified.
